Wednesday, August 20, 2008 14:56 [IST]

Jammu: Unruly mobs today set on fire the vehicle of Pradesh BJP General Secretary Ajay Jamwal and tried to torch his official residence in Gandhi Nagar area, eyewitnesses said.

Some unidentified people barged into the official residence of Jamwal in the afternoon and burnt his vehicle. They later damaged window panes and tried to set the residential quarter ablaze.

Fire brigade personnel reached the spot on time and doused the fire, eyewitnesses said. Jamwal was not at his residence when the attack took place.

Vice-president and Spokesperson of the BJP's state unit Hari Om said the incident was aimed at spreading scare among those who are supporting the ongoing agitation for transfer of 100 acres of land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
