Air strikes kill nine rebels in Afghanistan

Kabul: Nine Taliban insurgents were killed Wednesday in air strikes by international forces in eastern Afghanistan s Khost province, a provincial police spokesman said.

"A group of insurgents attempted to target the employees of a road construction company in Alishir district this morning. The police identified the militants and contacted international troops that carried out air raids killing nine rebels on the spot," he said.

On Monday, Taliban suicide bombers targeted a US military base in Khost killing nine Afghans and injuring 13 while nine suicide bombers were identified and killed Tuesday while attempting to launch another attack.

Taliban insurgents have intensified their activities across Afghanistan over the past week. Around 70,000 foreign troops are stationed in the war-torn country for peacekeeping and reconstruction efforts.
