Jamshedpur: The Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) has called for Jharkhand bandh on August 27 in protest against the Jharkhand government's decision to appoint 4401 Urdu teachers, including 1074 posts reserved for scheduled tribe candidates knowing Urdu, in the state.
Reacting to the notification published by the state government in this regard today, JDP chief Salkhan Murmu asked how could the government reserve seats for scheduled tribe candidates knowing Urdu when it had not recruited a single Adivasi teacher ever since a separate Jharkhand state was created.
Addressing a press conference here, Murmu said the government's decision was an anti-tribal step and an insult to the tribal community.
Besides Jharkhand, the bandh, will also be observed in parts of Orissa and West Bengal to mount pressure on the government to accord tribal language second official language status and restoration of Adivasi land, he said.
Demanding recruitment of 30,000 Adivasi teachers, Murmu threatened that JDP would not allow the state government to appoint Urdu teachers prior to recruitment of tribal teachers and would approach the Jharkhand High Court against the decision of the government soon. Source : PTI
