President to join Asiatic Society celebration

New Delhi:President Pratibha Patil will go to Kolkata Saturday to take part in the celebrations of the 225-year-old The Asiatic Society and a 150-year-old public library, it was announced Friday.

This would be her first visit to West Bengal since she became president.

During her two-day visit, she would participate in celebrations of The Asiatic Society Saturday and the 150th year of the Uttarpara Jai Krishna Public Library at Hooghly Sunday.

The Asiatic Society was established Jan 15, 1784, by William Jones. The society's library has printed books in almost all the major languages of the world.
