HC:No new admissions after cut-off date
Friday, August 22, 2008 21:09 [IST]
Mumbai:Bombay High Court today ruled that no fresh admissions shall be conducted in professional courses after the cut-off date for last admission -- notwithstanding AICTE s approval to the college for increase in intake capacity.

The special bench headed by Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar was dealing with bunch of cases where the Nagpur and Aurangabad benches of the High Court had given varying judgements.

The question of admissions post-cut off date arises when All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) gives the college permission to increase the intake capacity late into the admissions season. It so happens many times that at the start of the admission process colleges do not have the AICTE permission for increase in intake capacity, but get the same later.

Court today resolved the issue by laying down that there would be no fresh admission after cut-off date.

Also, AICTE has to communicate its decision regarding increase in intake capacity before June 15,court said.

Court said however that for today s decision won t affect past year s admissions.
