Three militants killed in Manipur

Imphal: Three militants of People s United Liberation Front (PULF) were killed in separate encounters with security personnel in Manipur, official sources said today.

Sources said a combined team of police commandos and Assam Rifles personnel detected some persons moving in a suspicious manner at Meitei Lamkhai area in Imphal West district last night.

When asked to stop, the militants opened fire, sources said adding that the security personnel reciprocated killing two PUL militants on the spot. One revolver, some live rounds and a hand grenade were recovered from the spot, sources said.

In another incident on sunday night, a PULF militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos attached to Thoubal police station in Thoubal district, a delayed official report said.

The report said the victim was identified as Mohammad Amu of Lilong area in the district. The bodies have been sent for post mortem.

Official sources said over 250 persons including civilians, were killed so far in militancy related crimes in Manipur this year.
