Gorakhpur: Legal adviser of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University was shot dead by two unidentified persons, the police said here today.

Vidya Sagar Pandey (65) was out on an evening stroll yesterday night near university campus when the assailants fired him at point blank range in his head and fled away in a car, they said.

Pandey, who was rushed to a hospital, succumbed to injuries, they said. Some personal row related with the appointments in the university is said to be the cause behind the murder, they said. Pandey was elected varsity's student union president in 1964-65. Later, he was appointed as the legal adviser to the university.

The Bar association has called for a day long strike today to protest the murder, while educational activities has been suspended in the university for today.
