23 prostitutes arrested in raid on Agra brothels
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 14:22 [IST]

Agra: Twenty-three prostitutes and 11 of their customers were arrested during a raid on six brothels here, police officials said Tuesday. The police, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Raghuvir Lal and city magistrate Shatrughan Singh, raided brothels in the Seo Ka Bazar, Mal Ka Bazar and Kashmiri Bazar areas Monday night.

"We raided the brothels after reports that AIDS infected people were involved in flesh trade. We have sealed three brothels," said Raghuvir Lal.

Police say flesh trade has been flourishing in Agra for years but they have been conducting a drive against prostitution, often carried on under the garb of massage and beauty parlours, for the past three months.
