Jammu:Former Member of Parliament and Bharatiya Jan Sangh president Thakur Baldev Singh has passed away after prolonged illness at his residence in Kathua district.
Singh, 90,died last evening, his family said. He is survived by three sons and an equal number of daughters.
He was born in 1918 at Pune where his father Thakur Narain Singh Jasrotia was posted in the army.
A law graduate from Lahore University, he was a member of Praja Parishad and also became the president of Bhartiya Jan Sangh in 1967.
He was elected to Lok Sabha from Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch constituency in 1977 as an independent candidate.
He became a member of the state legislative assembly during 1980 and also 1987 on a BJP ticket from Hiranagar assembly constituency.
State BJP president president Ashok Khajuria, former union minister Chaman Lal Gupta and other leaders have condoled his death. Source : PTI
