Panaji:Goa s leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar today alleged that the state government was not seriously applying mind in getting rid of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
"I don t doubt the (government s) intention. At times intention may be good but without proper application of mind it is of no use," Parrikar said addressing the state legislative assembly session today.
Goa has scrapped twelve SEZs which were in the different stages while three zones are pending denotification.
The state government run Goa Industrial development corporatio (GIDC) has already issued show cause notices to revoke land to seven SEZ promoters, who have lost cases in the Goa bench of Mumbai high court.
The court has granted interim stay on the notices. "The GIDC should have issued revocation notices to the SEZ promoters as they have failed to take up the activity," Parrikar said pointing out that the corporation has cited that the notice follow the state government s directives against the SEZs.
"The GIDC should have issued notices suo motto," the leader of opposition said.
He also pointed out that state government is yet to revive its policy. The state cabinet on July 13,2006 had formulated the state SEZ policy.
