Jammu: Three people, including an army officer, were killed and at least five others injured here today by militants who had infiltrated into the Indian territory from across the border under the cover of firing from the Pakistani side.
The three militants, who had sneaked into Jammu through Kanachak border yesterday, are currently holed up in a house at Chinore here, official sources said, adding that the area has been cordoned off by the security forces.
One woman and three children are being held hostage by the militants, they said. A group of three to four militants had yesterday sneaked into Indian territory under cover of firing from the Pakistani side following which BSF launched a massive operation.
In fact, the Army officer was killed and three others were injured when the militants attacked a security checkpost in crowded Mishriwala area on the outskirts of the city. Though the security forces retaliated, the militants, sporting a khaki dress, managed to escape in an auto after killing its driver. Later, they also gunned down a civilian and injured two labourers, the sources said.
