Chennai:Asserting that it was no longer a part of the ruling DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, CPI today said it would work for forging a new alliance for the next Lok Sabha polls in which neither BJP nor Congress are a part.

CPI state secretary D Pandian told reporters here that the party would in cooperation with the other Left parties, including CPI(M), work towards forming an alliance.

"We have made it clear that we would not have truck with parties aligning with the BJP or the Congress, and form an alternative to these parties," he said.

CPI would not support the DMK in next year s Lok Sabha elections for its ties with the Congress, he said. The Left parties would discuss among themselves before deciding on inviting prospective members to the proposed alternative.

On a query whether the party would ally with the AIADMK, following its chief Jayalalithaa saying she had kept her options open on alliances including with the Left, Pandian evaded a direct reply.

"If media reports are true that she is not going to join sides with the BJP, we request her to stay-put on that decision," he said.

On Chief Minister M Karunanidhi penning poems apparently targeting Left parties for walking out of the DPA, Pandian said "he has a right to speak his mind out."

Reacting to National Security Advisor M K Narayanan s recent statements that Sri Lanka had assured India that firing incidents on Indian fishermen would not recur, he urged the Centre to get a firm assurance from Colombo and to make an announcement in this regard by Prime Minister or External Affairs Minister.
