Wednesday, August 27, 2008 20:33 [IST]
New Delhi:India today extended a 33-million dollar line of credit to Lao.

This was announced after bilateral discussions Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had with visiting President of Lao Choummaly Sayasone.

At the delegation-level talks, the two leaders deliberated on a wide range of subjects of bilateral interest, and issues of regional and international importance.

Sayasone is on a four-day visit to India, the first by a President of Lao in 33 years.

Lao played a crucial and supportive role for India to join the East Asia Summit. It also supports India for a permanent seat in the expanded UN Security Council.

India and Lao have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations anchored in civilisational and spiritual ties since ancient times.

Saysone is also scheduled to visit Agra, Gaya and Kolkata.
