Patna: Four pavement dwellers were killed and two others injured after being run over by a speeding truck here.

The accident occurred past midnight when a stonechip-laden truck crushed a group of labourers sleeping on the pavement at R-block roundabout under Secretariat police station of the state capital, police said.

Angry locals caught hold of the driver and cleaner of the vehicle and beat them up before police intervened and rescued them.

Police had to use mild force to disperse the agitated crowd that tried to set the truck on fire and blocked the road.

The local administration handed over Rs 10,000 to the next of kin of each of the deceased, sources said.
