Ujjain: Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today flagged-off the Jan Ashirvad Yatra of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The theme of the yatra is Surakshit Ghar, Viksit Pradesh (Safe home and developed state). The yatra will end on October 2.
The yatra will cover 3,000 km covering 36 districts, 115 assembly constituencies and 25 Lok Sabha seats.
Senior BJP leaders including Madhya Pradesh Election incharge Venkaiah Naidu, party general secretary incharge MP, Ananth Kumar were present on the occasion among others.
The Leader of Opposition will also address a party rally later in the day in view of the ensuing assembly polls in the state.
Earlier, Advani inaugurated the Mahakaleshwar Vedic Prashikshan Evam Shoudh Sansthan (Mahakaleshwar Vedic Training and Research Institute) situated at the Mahakal Temple premises.
He said that Vedic institutes like these can ensure real progress of the country and not the system setup by the British, who gave prominence to English.
Advani said that the people of Matter village in Karnataka s Shimoga district speak in Sanskrit language and added that he wanted to see Ujjain in the same league.
Chouhan said that the institute will help in spreading Vedic knowledge among the masses and also help in conserving ancient manuscripts.
Earlier nearly 50 Congressmen tried to show black flags to Chouhan in protest against the yatra, but they were prevented from doing so by the police which later arrested them.
