Danish troops see Afghan forces killing prisoner
Thursday, August 28, 2008 21:33 [IST]

COPENHAGEN, Denmark: The Danish military says its troops in Afghanistan have witnessed an Afghan detainee being shot dead by Afghan forces.

Denmark's top military authority says the episode took place late Wednesday in the northern part of the Helmand province. He says other allied soldiers also witnessed the episode.

The military refused Thursday to give further details. However, the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende says the detainee was held by British troops during a joint operation with Afghan and Danish soldiers.

The newspaper says the Afghan troops suddenly ordered the British soldiers to move away from the prisoner and shot him.
