He kills her for insisting on marriage
Mumbai: Fed up with constant nagging to get married, a 26-year-old man allegedly strangulated his girlfriend in a lodge in Kalyan on Monday. After gaining composure, the accused, Vinod Temghare, walked into MFC police station, surrendered himself and broke down, confessing to the crime.
Shocked police officials looked on in awe, heard him out and subsequently arrested him. The Bazaarpeth police station slapped charges of murder against Temghare and will produce him in Kalyan court for police remand on Tuesday.
"Preliminary police investigations revealed that Temghare could not handle his girlfriend, who constantly pestered him for marriage. The couple was seeing each other for a year. Further investigations are on," said Dattatray Karale, deputy commissioner of police, (Zone III), Thane. Police found out that he killed Aarti Londhe, 19,by allegedly strangling with her dupatta.
According to the police, the couple checked into Sharan, a lodge in Adharwadi around 11 am. When the clock struck four, Temghare walked past the corridor, alone. When the lodge staff enquired where he was going and if he needed room service, Temghare told them he was going to the nearby chemist store and left.
When he did not return even after 45 minutes, the staff got worried and began to knock on the door. When no one answered, the staff peeped into the room through the ventilator and found Londhe lying motionless on the bed. They then rushed to the police station and alerted them. Even as police officials from the Bazaarpeth police station began to hurry up, they got a call from their MFC counterparts informing them about Temghares confession. The police have sent Londhes body to Rukminibai municipal hospital in Kalyan for a post-mortem.
Both the accused and the victim lived near Birla College and hailed from a middle-class background. Police sources said that Temghares father, who vehemently opposed the relationship, passed away some weeks ago. They added that after his death, Temghare was apprehensive to carry on the relationship, much to Londhes dismay.
The police will record statements of the couples parents, relatives and friends to get further details about them. "We will find out why the parents objected to the relationship and probe into other reasons that may have forced Temghare to take the extreme step," said a police official from Bazaarpeth police station, requesting anonymity.
