Kolkata:West Bengal s ruling Left Front today welcomed Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi s initiative to end the Singur deadlock, but reserved comments on his two vital proposals - appointment of a mediator and maintaining the status quo on the disputed land till the mediator makes his recommendation.
"We have generally discussed the initiative taken by the Governor to resolve the crisis. We have not discussed the intermediary suggested by the Governor or whether he will be a mediator himself," Left Front chairman Biman Bose told reporters after a meeting.
He said the Left Front had not discussed the fixing a mediator for examining the land acquisition issue or maintaining the status quo in Singur.
The Front appreciated the concern expressed by the Governor in his letter to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee over the impasse at Singur, Bose said.
"The chief minister and Left Front have been repeatedly saying that a solution to the Singur issue should be found through discussion. To this end was added the initiative of the Governor who appealed to the Trinamool chief for finding a solution. The Trinamool chief also responded to it."
"The Left Front welcomes the positive role of the Governor and the Trinamool chief," he said.
The Front chairman said there should be across-the-table discussion where all these issues can be raised and a solution found. Source : PTI
