Patna:Terming the situation in Bihar as akin to the days of Indo-Pakistan partition with thousands rendered homeless, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad today announced setting up of a flood relief camp in the state capital.
Party workers despatched 1.5 lakh biscuit packets and an equal number of water bottles and other relief materials to flood-affected districts of Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia and Araria, the Railway minister told reporters at the Patna junction here.
Terming the situation in flood-hit districts as "quite bad" and comparable to those days following partition, Prasad said "scores of people can be seen wading through chest-deep water clutching their belongings to safer places.
He said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should visit the flood-hit areas and hear grievances of the people.
The district unit of RJD has contributed Rs 11 lakh to the Railway ministry relief fund for carrying out rescue operations, Prasad said.
State unit president Abdul Bari Sidiqui will monitor the operations of the Patna relief camp, he said. Source : PTI
