Congo plane crash:16 of 17 bodies recovered
Thursday, September 04, 2008 19:39 [IST]
Kinshasa:A United Nations official says 16 bodies and the black box flight recorder have been recovered from a crashed plane in Congo.

Seventeen people were on board the plane that went down Monday as it tried to land at an airstrip in the eastern Congo town of Bukavu. The wreckage was spotted Tuesday on a ridge nine miles (15 kms) away.

Heavy fog prevented a rescue helicopter from reaching the site until today. UN spokesman Lt Col Jean-Paul Dietrich says ten rescuers were lowered onto the mountain. They found all but one of the 17 people on board the humanitarian flight.
