Maya supports Advani on anti-crime law
Friday, September 05, 2008 08:45 [IST]
DNA:UP chief minister Mayawati has supported BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani on the issue of drafting a stringent crime control law for the state on the lines of the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act).

"The Congress-led government at the Centre is all praise for the MCOCA to control crime in Congress-ruled Maharashtra. But when we want to implement a similar law, the same government at the Centre is trying to thwart it," Mayawati said at a press conference on Thursday.

Recently, Advani had slammed the Central government for opposing stringent crime control laws drafted on the lines of MCOCA by the BJP governments in Rajasthan and Gujarat. "The opposition to the UPCOCA Bill by the Congress and the Centre is shameful and politically motivated," Mayawati said.
