Gujarat Congress begins grassroots programme
Friday, September 05, 2008 08:47 [IST]
Ahmedabad:The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Thursday launched its Lok Durbars (public assemblies) in 90 constituencies that saw people flocking to submit their grievances.

GPCC president Siddharth Patel told media persons that at the durbars held at the Shahpur and Dariapur constituencies, over 4,400 people submitted their problems in writing. Many alleged that kerosene was not available as it was being diverted to the black market, Patel said.

A large number of applications came from Godhra riot victims.

The Lok Durbars are scheduled in all 182 state assembly constituencies. In the remaining 92 constituencies it will be held on on Sep 25.

The GPCC has also drawn up plans to take the campaign to the grassroots level by reaching out to villagers across the state. A Gujarat Navnirman Yatra is being launched from Sep 14 to Oct 9 in all the assembly constituencies to highlight the problems faced by farmers as well as issues like deteriorating law and order situation, unemployment and inflation.

Daily meetings with villagers will be held to discuss their problems.
