The temblor, which measured 5.5 on the Richter scale, and its shocks was felt in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The local met office said the quake's epicentre was located 355 km northwest of the federal capital, in the Hindukush mountains. Sharp jolts were also felt in Peshawar, Swat, Muzaffarabad, Batagram, Abbottabad and Gilgit.

Some of these areas were affected by the devastating earthquake of October 8,2005 that killed over 80,000 people and rendered millions homeless. The same region was jolted on Friday by a tremor measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale.
