Imphal: A militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos in Manipur s Imphal West district, official sources said today.

The commandos attached to the district police were attacked by militants when they were frisking passers-by at Yumnam Huidrom Lampak under Wangoi police station late last night.

As the miliatnsts opened fire the commandos returned it killing the militant at the spot, the sources said.

One 9 mm pistol and a loaded magazine were seized from the person of the dead militant, whose accomplices escaped the area.

Over 260 people, including civilians, were killed in separate militancy-related crimes in Manipur this year, the sources said.
