HYDERABAD: A couple Saturday lodged a complaint with the police here saying Telugu superstar and Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi, Dalit leader Katti Padma Rao and his son Chetan were involved in the "kidnapping" of their daughter.

Parents of Nalini, 24, in their complaint, said their daughter was "kidnapped" and was forced into marriage with Chetan. They lodged the complaint against Chiranjeevi, Padma Rao and Chetan with the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police station.

T. Subba Rao and T. Naga Shiromani alleged that Chiranjeevi attended the marriage and called Nalini his "adopted daughter". The complaint was lodged a day after the girl's parents met Home Minister K. Jana Reddy and Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and sought their help in tracing out their daughter. The home minister advised them to lodge a complaint with the police.

Chetan, son of Padma Rao, married Nalini last Saturday at a function performed in the absence of the girl's parents. Chiranjeevi attended the inter-caste marriage as Padma Rao had joined his Praja Rajyam party two days after its launch August 26.

Nalini, an engineering graduate from West Godavari district, was employed in the city and stayed in a hostel at Ameerpet. Her parents said she returned to the city last week to shift her place of residence but was kidnapped and married to Chetan in the presence of Chiranjeevi.

"How a person (Chiranjeevi) who still has not accepted the inter-caste marriage of his own daughter Sreeja, could adopt a 24-year-old girl without the consent of her parents," asked Shiromani. The actor's daughter Sreeja had last year eloped with a boy and married him against the wishes of her parents.

Chiranjeevi's party has clarified that he attended the wedding as an invitee and that nothing more need be interpreted into his presence. Nalini also denied the allegation of her parents and said she married Chetan on her own. She told mediapersons Friday that she got married without the knowledge of her parents as they had reservations about the boy. She said Chiranjeevi only attended the marriage as a well-wisher and a guardian.

Chiranjeevi launched his party, Praja Rajyam, at a mammoth public meeting at temple town of Tirupati August 26.
