Chinese Foreign Minister arrives in New Delhi
Sunday, September 07, 2008 18:51 [IST]
New Delhi/Kolkata:Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi arrived here today on a three-day visit to India during which he will hold talks with Indian leadership which is expected to convey its disappointment to him about Beijing s stand at the Vienna meeting of NSG granting waiver to New Delhi's nuclear trade. Yang, who reaches in New Delhi tomorrow, will call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and later hold talks with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

National Security Advisor M K Narayanan had said yesterday that India would take up the issue of China s stand at the NSG meet during the talks tomorrow and "we will convey some kind of disappointment to him.....because we expected something more from them".

Beijing s stand at the Vienna meeting came as a surprise to India especially after Chinese President Hu Jintato and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had assured stand Manmohan Singh that their country would take a constructive stand on the issue.

The border issue and bilateral trade are also expected to come up for discussion in the talks between Mukherjee and Yang.

The two countries have so far held 11 rounds of talks on the boundary issue.

Sino-Indian trade is at present to the tune of 38.7 billion dollars and the two sides have agreed to push it up to 60 billion dollars by 2010.
