N-deal will deliver costly energy: Rajnath
Monday, September 08, 2008 09:52 [IST]
Ghaziabad:The nuclear deal with the US will not benefit India as energy generated by nuclear technology will be costly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh said here Sunday.

Addressing a public meeting, Singh said the India-US nuclear deal will take time to deliver and it will not be before 2020 that fuel secured under it will generate power at full capacity. Till then, nuclear energy would meet only six percent of India's power demand, according to him.

He estimated that the production cost of energy using nuclear resources would come to at least Rs.9 a unit, which is quite expensive for the poor farmer of this country.

He asked the central government to frame pro-farmer policies even as he criticised the Uttar Pradesh government for acquiring farmlands for industry "at very meagre prices".
