Monday, September 08, 2008 19:32 [IST]
Dehra Dun:Uttar Pradesh police have picked up a Haridwar businessman on suspicion that he called up Chief Minister Mayawati, posing as an MP.

Dharmendra Sehgal was taken to Lucknow for questioning yesterday, police sources said here today.

However, Sehgal told Uttarakhand police that he is innocent and that he had been receiving phones on his mobile from Lucknow instead.

Family members of Sehgal, who runs a cycle shop, also said he was never involved in any crime.

Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh officials have told their counterparts in Uttarakhand that Sehgal was picked up after the number from which he made the call was traced.
