Kolkata:Trinamool Congress on Monday said expressed confidence that West Bengal government would go by the agreement reached to end the Singur impasse and wanted the Tatas to stay in the state.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said it was a "gentlemans agreement" and wondered why the government would violate it.
Why would the government deviate from the agreement? Do not mislead the people. It is a peoples issue, she said in reply to a question.
Mamata, who announced suspension of the two-week-long dharna at Singur small car plant yesterday, said as far as the agreement with the government is concerned the government has decided to provide land to the maximum within the project area and the rest in adjacent area as early as possible.
She said the Tata Motors statement that it would not resume work at Singur small car plant till there was clarity on the outcome of last nights talks did not concern TC.
No comment. What Tatas have said are not related to us. The agreement was signed between leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen in the presence of the constitutional head (Governor), she said.
I want the Tatas to stay here, Mamata said in reply to another question.
Mamata said last night at Singur that her party had only suspended the indefinite dharna at Singur and not withdrawn it after an understanding was reached with West Bengal government and threatend to resume it if the agreement was violated.
Trinamools key negotiator Partha Chatterjee said it was in the interest of the car project and farmers that the investor (Tatas) should refrain from making any statement "which dampens the spirit under which negotiations have been concluded yesterday".
It would be unfortunate if the Tatas dishonour the government and the opposition and also the expectation of the people by not respecting the initiative taken by the Governor of West Bengal and to the agreement that was signed, he said. Source : DNA
