Mumbai police issue gag order against Raj
Monday, September 08, 2008 19:54 [IST]

Mumbai:The Mumbai police on Monday issued a barred MNS leader Raj Thackeray from making provocative speeches and holding press conferences for a month.

"The order under section 144 of the CrPC will be delivered to Raj Thackeray today following which it will be operational," Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe said.

The order issued by the police has said action can be taken against him if he addresses public gatherings or addresses press conferences while the order is in force, he said.

The order has been issued by the Assistant ommissioner of Police of Dadar where Raj resides and will be served to him on Monday night, he said.

Raj on Monday held a press conference announcing his party would oppose the release and exhibition of movies in which members of the Amitabh Bachchan family were acting.

The police had earlier served Raj a notice seeking his stand on why the order should not be issued against him for his comments against city traders who failed to put up signboards in Marathi.

Earlier, Raj had been issued a similar order by the city police for his campaign targetting members of the north Indian community.
