Sambalpur (Orissa):The local administration has announced a three-day holiday for schools as a safeguard against a group of rabid dogs which had left 62 persons injured during the past 72 hours, official sources said.
"The administration has declared a three-day holiday in schools from today in fear of the rabid dogs," Kuchinda sub-collector B B Behera said. Behera suspected that 10 dogs were rabid and had bitten at least 62 persons including 22 children.
"People were told to come out of their houses in groups and with sticks," the sub-collector said adding that administration had meanwhile nabbed nearly 12 dogs with the help of dog catchers.
Meanwhile, the injured persons had to be sent to nearby hospitals as the local government hospital ran short of anti-rabies injections.
