AMU docs to provide free service to flood victims
Friday, September 12, 2008 15:46 [IST]

Aligarh: The Aligarh Muslim University will organise free medical camps in flood-devastated Bihar, a university official said Friday.

"At least 20 doctors of AMU will visit the flood-hit state to provide medical services to the victims free of cost," AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar told IANS.

"The team of doctors will reach Bihar Sep 15 and will camp there till Sep 25," he added.

The team of doctors has also raised relief funds worth Rs.400,000 that would be handed over to the authorities in Bihar, officials said.

The floods in Bihar have claimed at least 50 lives, according to official estimates.

However, voluntary agencies fear the deaths could be in hundreds.

Over 2.5 million people and nearly one million cattle have been affected. About 100,000 hectares of farmland has been submerged and nearly 300,000 houses damaged in the floods.
