Bomb hoaxes delay marriages in Tamil Nadu town
Friday, September 12, 2008 21:00 [IST]

Usilampatti: Bomb hoaxes Friday delayed two marriages in this Tamil Nadu town, an official said.

Anonymous phone calls claimed that at least four bombs were strategically placed in two marriage halls here, the official said.

"Since the families about to conduct the auspicious rituals were interested in their safety as well, the searches were conducted even as the families went about their work," R. Damodaran, a bomb disposal squad official, told journalists.

Damodaran did not rule out mischief by some disgruntled elements.

"Measures to trace the hoax calls have yielded some interesting leads," Damodaran added.

Though delayed by a little over an hour each, the marriages, however, were solemnised without major hitches before the expiry of the auspicious hours.

Usilampatti, close to the Kerala border, is some 650 km southwest of capital Chennai.
