Bomb attack kills 5 policemen in Kabul
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 12:24 [IST]
Kabul: A bomb blast in Afghanistan's capital wounded Kabul's chief criminal investigator and killed two of his guards today, an official said.

The bomb blast apparently targeted Gen Ali Shah Paktiawal, the head of criminal investigations for the Kabul police, said Zemeri Bashary, the Interior Ministry spokesman.

Paktiawal was investigating an overnight killing of three officers at a checkpoint in Kabul's western outskirts when the blast struck his team, Bashary said. The explosion lightly wounded Paktiawal.

Paktiawal is a high-profile police official who rushes to the scenes of bombings and personally leads raids on the city's numerous criminal gangs. He is protected by a large security detail.
