Srinagar:  With the onset of current season, supply of fresh fruit from Kashmir valley has been witnessing sharp increase during the last fortnight, a official spokesperson said today.

During last 21 days 6,088 trucks carried fresh fruit from the valley to the markets of different parts in the country as compared to 3,607 trucks last year during the same period, the official said.

"Out of these 5,250 trucks laden with fresh Kashmir fruit dispatched to Delhi market as against the previous figure of 2,813 trucks during last year during the season," he added.

The rest 838 trucks sent to other markets is also more than the previous year s figure of 794.

These are in addition to the 55,000 tones of fresh fruit dispatched to outside markets in the country by August.

The average rate of Kashmiri apples, which varied between Rs 118 and Rs 265 per box last year, is also expected to go up this year depending upon their quality, he said.
