Mumbai: Mohammad Sadiq Shaikh, one of five alleged members of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) arrested by the Mumbai police, showed great enthusiasm while troubleshooting for a leading chain of departmental stores.
Sadiq worked as a programme engineer with the Content Management System (CMS), a computer software firm in JB Nagar, Andheri, which was contracted by Aditya Birla Groups departmental store More.
According to an employee of CMS who refused to be named, whenever there was an assignment at the More site in Andheri, Sadiq would volunteer to go. The employee said that Sadiq came across as a very moody person who did not mix up much.
The police have claimed that they have seized the hard disc from the computer Sadiq used. They are also questioning a few other employees in the firm who might be able to provide more insights into the case.
Besides, the police are also scanning the More office where Sadiq used to go regularly. "CMS sent several employees to our site. Sadiq might have also come on many occasions. We have all the records in the entry registers and we will help the police with any details they need," said Subodh Thakkar, manager, administration, More.
Sadiq had been working with the CMS for the past one year, the police said. When asked if the firm carried any background check before hiring Sadiq or any other employee, a CMS spokesperson said, "We are discussing it with the HR. We would be forwarding all the information we have to the police."
The police claimed that Sadiq, 31,had undergone terror training in a hostile country on two occasions - once for nine months and for 45 days the second time. The police suspect he occupied a high rank in the IM.
Sadiq was residing at Cheetah Camp in Trombay in a joint family. He was arrested from Nehru Nagar in Kurla after a CMS employee got suspicious about Sadiqs activities. The employee (name withheld) told his senior that Sadiq turned up for work on off days. He would work late nights, scribbling something in Urdu, the employee told his boss. The employee then approached the crime branch with his suspicions. The crime branch then arrested Sadiq.
