Dhubri: Seven Bangladeshi HUJI militants detailed to trigger serial blasts in Guwahati were killed in an encounter with the army at Bashbari area of Assam's Dhubri district today and arms and RDX recovered from them.
Defence sources said the documents recovered from the person of the slain ultras established that they were HUJI militants especially assigned to trigger serial blasts in Guwahati along the lines of those in Delhi, Jaipur and Gujarat.
An operation had been launched in the area by the 21 Jat regiment of the Red Horn division of the army following a tip off about activities of HUJI insurgents from across Bangladesh, the sources said.
The encounter took place at around 3.30 am when the troops saw a group of militants on the railway tracks at Oraibari and asked them to halt. At this the extremists fired at them and attempted to flee.
In retaliation the troops killed five militants on the spot, while the other two died a short distance away from the encounter site.
Four revolvers, two American pistols, a pen pistol, three hand grenades, 79 live cartridges, four dead cartridges, an improvised explosive device (IED), six detonators, 1.5 kg RDX explosives, 30 metre fuse wire, a radio set, Bangladesh cell phone SIM card one, Indian Rs 4100,Bangladeshi Taka 3740, USD 14,1.5 litre petrol and a cell phone set and some documents were recovered from them, the sources said.
