Exiled Muslim preacher's daughter a pole dancer
Sunday, September 28, 2008 14:45 [IST]

London:The daughter of British Muslim preacher exiled for his extremist views is a pole dancer, a British newspaper reported.

Yasmin Fostok, 27, whose father Omar Bakri Mohammed lives in Lebanon after being deported from Britain, admitted she performs in London bars and nightclubs, adding: "I’m willing to go topless if the venue is right,” The Sun reported.

Yasmin, described as a party-loving girl, quit the family home and now lives in Catford, a south London neighbourhood.

“I don’t get on with my dad,” she said about Omar Bakri, who sparked outrage in Britain by apparently praising the 9/11 bombers.

“I don’t agree with his views - I just get on with my life and that’s it.”

The 50-year-old Bakri said: “I am deeply shocked. “She was brought up properly in the Muslim faith, but she is free to make her own choices in life. But I am still shocked.

“I haven’t spoken to her for a long time because I believed she was living with her family in Turkey. But I knew nothing of this. She should not seek forgiveness from me, she should seek forgiveness from God. It is his forgiveness which is important.”

The Sun and other British newspapers have splashed photographs of Yasmin posing in skimpy clothes.

The Sun said she has toured as a dancer with a troupe called Ibiza Untouched, “whipping up crowds of clubbers into a frenzy".

Yasmin, who changed her name from Youssra, confessed her secret when a Sun reporter called her posing as a gentlemen’s club booking agent.

She is said to have been a devout Muslim in her teens - wearing a veil and cover-all clothes - before leaving school at the age of 16 for an arranged marriage with a Turkish man.

But the marriage faltered as she became disillusioned with her father.

The Syrian-born Bakri became a hate-figure in much of the British press after being quoted as saying: “I condemn Tony Blair. I condemn George Bush. I would never condemn Osama Bin Laden or any Muslims.”
