Sunday, September 28, 2008 15:54 [IST]

Sirsa: Timely intervention by the police helped avert a possible clash in village Kuttabadh, between the Sikhs and the Dera Sacha Sauda followers. According to police sources after the death of a Dera follower Nanak Singh, his kin held a Naam Charcha (prayer) for the peace of the departed soul yesterday.

The Dera followers allegedly used Loud speakers during Naam Charcha against a mutual agreement arrived at earlier between the village Sikhs and Dera followers through the village Panchayat.

The use of Public address system infuriated the Sikhs who started assembling to protest. In the meantime the police got a wind of it and a police party led by SHO Ram Kumar arrived and put off the loud speakers. The village had been a hotbed of the Dera Sikh controversy, but always the police intervened and saved the situation.
