Pakistan to continue anti-militant operations
Monday, September 29, 2008 19:41 [IST]

Islamabad: Pakistan's security forces will continue operations against militants in the tribal areas, including the northwest Swat Valley, the News Network International news agency reported Monday.

The operation, backed by the political leadership, is a continued process, the report quoted security officials as saying.

The operations will continue until the areas are cleared of militants, officials said.

A senior security official disclosed citing unconfirmed reports that deputy chief of Pakistan-based Taliban insurgents, Maulvi Faqir, had moved to the tribal region of Mohmand recently.

The security forces have been cracking down on militants in the tribal areas in the North West Frontier Province for past couple of months.

Local media reports said the Pakistani government was mulling a major operation against militants in the region.
