Dharamsala: Faced with large-scale damage to roads by rains, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to build cemented roads in different areas on a trial basis as safeguard against frequent rainfalls that lash the state every year.
"Cemented roads would be build on trial basis to find a permanent solution to the widespread damage to roads by rains every year," Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said.
Authorities are identifying roads in every district, particularly the ones that leads to villages in the state, officials said.
The state government had early this week demanded financial assistance of Rs 1,580 crore from the centre for repair of roads and damage to the public and private property in the recent rains and flash floods.
The demand was put to the Central team which toured six districts of the state recently for an on-the-spot study of damage caused by rains in the hill state.
The state has already released Rs 50 crore for carrying out repairs, an official said. Source : PTI
