Brasilia: Guards at the official residence of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva shot and wounded a 30-year-old man who ignored warnings and tried to enter the property, officials said.
The man, who was not carrying identification, was taken to a hospital in the capital Brasilia for medical treatment, the president's security service said.
The guards had opened fire on the man, hitting him in the leg with non-lethal rounds, after first giving warnings by voice and by firing in the air when he tried to scale a gate yesterday.
Lula was not home at the time of the early-morning incident. He was with his wife in his home town of Sao Bernardo do Campo on the outskirts of the southwestern city of Sao Paulo to vote in local elections that were being held across the country.
Three people died in the northeastern town of Bom Lugar in separate shooting incidents involving rival political groups, local media reported.
The brother of one of the candidates running for mayor in the town was killed when two cars intercepted a vehicle carrying the incumbent mayor, sparking an exchange of gunfire.
The two others were killed elsewhere in Bom Lugar. Police did not give further details. Source : PTI
