Three children meet watery grave

Katni: Three children drowned in an open tank of an under-construction toilet in a government school premises here, police said today.

The incident occured yesterday at village Bhatgavan when a group of ten children were playing in the school campus and suddenly three of them fell into an open tank filled with water, police said.

The deceased were identified as Nagendra, Krishna Kumar (both five) and Swapnil (3), they said adding their bodies were handed over to their parents after post-mortem.

Police has registered a case against the local sarpanch as he left the lid of the tank opened resulting in the mishap and arrested him on charges of negligence.

The construction work was going under the supervision of the local sarpanch.
