President condoles freedom fighter's death
Monday, October 06, 2008 21:50 [IST]
New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil today condoled the death of veteran freedom fighter Laxmi Panda here.

Panda was a member of Subhash Chandra Bose's Indian National Army (INA) which fought the British during the Second World War. She was enlisted in the Rani Jhansi regiment.

Panda had met Patil in August this year and apprised her about her poverty as she was not getting freedom fighters pension.

Patil then helped her in getting the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension last week when she was bed-ridden due to old-age ailments, an official release said.
