BANGALORE: The special police team investigating terror in southern Karnataka districts broke into the house of Ahmed Bawa, a member of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) strike module busted by Mangalore Police last Friday, at Koppa in Chikmagalur district on Monday.

Apart from Bawa, 33,of Haleangady, Mohammed Ali, 56, of Mukkachari, Javed Ali, 20, who studying the Quran in Ullal, and builder Naushad, 25, of Subhashnagar were arrested in the pre-dawn raid in Mangalore.

Led by inspector Venkatesh Prasanna, the team found three suitcases containing two drilling machines, 5 kg of iron nails, glass splinters, wires, ammonium nitrate, various other chemicals, gunpowder, screw drivers and bolts. An air gun, bow and arrows and Islamic propaganda material written in Urdu and Arabic were also recovered.

Police said the house in a deserted corner of the town bore all signs of a bomb-making unit.

After having led a hand-to-mouth existence all his life, Bawa recently bought the vast plot on which the house stands and began living a secluded life. People staying closest to the plot said the Bawas mostly kept to themselves.
