Bus crash in SAfrica kills 27: police
Wednesday, October 08, 2008 11:40 [IST]
Johannesburg: Police in South Africa said 27 people died after the bus in which they were travelling plunged into a river in the northeastern Mpumalanga province, the SAPA agency has reported.

The accident happened after the driver lost control of the bus yesterday, said police spokesman Abie Khoabane, SAPA reported.

"Twenty seven people, including the driver, were killed," he added.

An unknown number of injured people were taken to nearby hospitals.

Road accidents are one of the main causes of death in South Africa. In May, a bus accident in the southern province of Eastern Cape killed at least 28 people.
