Paswan defends NCSC's opposition to Mahadalit Comm

New Delhi: The Lok Janshakti Party today joined the opposition to the Mahadalit Commission , accusing the ruling JD(U)-BJP combine in Bihar of trying to divide the dalit community through it.
"It is indeed unconstitutional and NCSC has rightly described it so. They knew that they cannot get votes of Paswan and others in the SC category. Hence they formed Mahadalit Commission to create divisions," Union Minister for Steel, Chemical and Fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan said. Paswan's comments came a day after the Mahadalit Commission, constituted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in September last year by bringing 18 of the total 22 castes of SC category in its purview, was dubbed as "unconstitutional" by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC).
The Commission, he alleged, was constituted to "create divisions in the society. But I did not oppose it as it would send a wrong message among sections of Dalits that I am opposing their development".
"Today they have created a Mahadalit Commission. Tomorrow they will form an Ati Dalit Commission. This is all politics. But all these things are not going to benefit them, the LJP leader told reporters after flagging off a truck load of relief materials for Bihar flood victims by Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee here.
