Five PTA teachers begin hunger stike

Shimla: Five teachers appointed by Parents Teachers Association (PTA) during the previous Congress regime today began an indefinite hunger stike in support of their demand for withdrawal of a probe into their recruitment.

The strike will go on till the government withdraws inquiry ordered by it into PTA teachers recruitment, PTA President Vivek Mehta, one of the five teachers on hunger strike, said.

Police had to lathicharge agitating PTA teachers two days ago when they allegedly resorted to violence during their their day-long strike near the secretariat.

The Prem Kumar Dhumal government ordered a probe into the recruitment of over 10,000 PTA teachers during previous government in different schools across the state following complaints by people that many unqualified persons close to politically influential people were appointed.
