Muzaffarpur: Decomposed bodies of a man and a woman packed in two cartons today landed at the Railway station here from Mumbai, sending the police into a tizzy.
The putrefied bodies packed in polythene bags inside cartons reached here in the wee hours by Lokmanya Tilak-Muzaffarpur Pawan Express and were offloaded by the porters at the parcel room, police said.
Alarmed at the foul smell emanating from the cartons, parcel room staff called the Government Railway Police (GRP), who on opening the boxes found bodies of a man aged about 40 years and a woman in her 30s, GRP officer in-charge Shashibhushan Singh said.
He said since the consignor's name and address was mentioned as Sunil Kumar Jha, Andheri East, Mumbai, the Muzaffarpur police immediately got in touch with their Mumbai counterparts and discovered that both the name and address of the consignor were fake.
The police, he said, were trying to ascertain if the name of the consignee Santosh Kumar Jha, resident of Gupta Market, Muzaffarpur, was correct. "In all probability, the information about the consignee is also incorrect," Singh said, adding the railway parcel staff at Lokmanya Tilak terminus in Mumbai had committed a grave error by booking the parcel without ascertaining what it contained.
The bodies have been sent for post mortem and the investigation are on, they said.
