Panaji, Oct 9 (PTI) Two waiters and a security guard were arrested today for allegedly beating up the Australian national who later died while undergoing treatment, police said today.

Manak Basak (32), Jagat Pradhan (23) and Jaykrishna Das (25) were arrested by Calangute police under IPC Section 302 for the death of 65-year-old John Kelly, who were severely injured during a pub brawl with the accused yesterday.

The incident occurred yesterday at 6.30 am when John had an altercation with the waiters over "style of serving beer", police said.

"We sent a beat constable to the spot after getting an information about the incident at 8 am. By that time, John had already left," Police Inspector Tushar Vernekar said.

John reportedly went back to his guest house at Candolim, five kilometres away from the spot, from where he was shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital.

"He arrived here at 9.30 am. He went to the room and fell on the floor. I called the ambulance to shift him to the hospital," Jose Philip Vaz, the guest house owner said.

Police said John "disappeared" after the brawl. "He was not traceable and we located him only at 1.30 pm when we received wireless message from the hospital," Vernekar, who is investigating the case, said.

The Australian died at 6 pm while being treated in the hospital.

Superintendent of Police Bosco George said police have registered a case of murder and further investigations are on.
